Hello and welcome to Forever Home.

My love of interiors and exteriors has inspired this blog.  Sharing my passion for colour, pattern and design was something that I had a strong desire to do.  Forever Home is the result of that interest and passion.  I’m hoping you will enjoy reading articles about home renovation, decoration, design and architecture.  I’d like to share information with readers as well as a sense of my passion for all things design.

For me home starts from the outside.  The exterior of the building is such a key part of a building.  I’ve long loved good architecture.  From my childhood onwards I’ve always been saddened when buildings of merit were needlessly pulled down.  Later at university I started studying the history of art and more specifically the history of architecture.  Many of my college courses centred around Italian architecture, but I do love a wide range of styles.  I love the history and the grandeur of the gothic, but I’m also a fan of the art deco shapes and forms of the early twentieth century.  There’s no limit to what I like as long as the design is strong or the building accords with its environment.

Gardening is another of my passions, both garden design and horticulture.  For me the bones of a garden are important, the structures that hold it together, but also the greenery and softer elements. I love the way the two can work together to create a wonderful green tapestry.  My garden at home combines ornamental sections with a vegetable patch.  I love to see the practical living alongside the purely beautiful.  This year I’m hoping to grow more than ever: new vegetables and new flowers.  I particularly enjoy growing shrubs and perennials as there’s less weeding to do that way, but I often grow more seasonal bedding in pots and I love the way bulbs can really have an impact on your garden.

Once you open the front door you’re in a space that’s much easier to control and put your stamp on.  There are still outside factors like the light and the view, but there’s more scope to control things. Everything in your home involves design from bathrooms to kitchens, living rooms to bedrooms.  I love a wide range of styles from the kitsch to sleek, modern cool.  It’s great to put a look together from the structural elements to the softer furnishings, from ornaments to door knobs.  I like sleek lines and soft contours, the smooth and the rough, contrast works so well, but so does complementary shades, shapes and fabrics.  Wallpaper is as much at home in my space as painted walls, or even a bare brick finish.  Dare to be brave, but equally go with what you like.  It’s important to be yourself in your own home after all.

Here at Forever Home I am open to working with a range of home interior, gardening and building brands.  Contact me here at Forever Home if you’d like to work with me.
